Uptown Autism Family Safety

Hola Comadres,

You are cordially invited to our live show recording. We will be  hosting this event in conjunction with Eurydice Roman, host of This is Your Spotlight TV Show to lead a Community Discussion Panel about Autism and Bullying for Autism Awareness Month in April.

The reason why we are picking this focus for the discussion panel is to provide an avenue for healing  for our community in light of the recent incident in the Washington Heights A train station on 181st  street, where three teens proceeded to beat and harass an Autistic boy on the subway in a viral video.

The Discussion Panel will consist of a presentation by Spectrum Warriors, a non-profit organization, that focuses on a program that teaches police officers how to deal with Autistic people in a time of crisis, when they are confronted by police.  We also will be inviting Community Activists and City Council Members to participate in the open dialogue which will be set up in Q & A style.

The proposed date for the event would be Wednesday, April 19th, 2023   from 7pm-9pm. Event is free of charge for those in attendance. Our children are ALL WELCOME. Below you will find the event breakdown:

Event Breakdown:

  • 7-7:15 pm Networking and mingling

Spectrum Lingo Caregiver Burnout

I will be attending this webinar, because based on our last episode where I featured Tom and Amanda Dyer, the directors of “Unseen: How We’re Failing Parent Caregivers & Why It Matters”, I also interviewed Nia the CEO of Spectrum Lingo and she put me on to this amazing webinar. Please attend and tell them your Comadre Marcy put you on.

“Parenting can be stressful, however studies have shown that parents of Autistic children score much higher on stress indicator tests. 📈😓

Higher stress levels can be attributed to several factors including:
👉Lack of help/support
👉Lack of understanding of the child’s needs
👉Financial burdens
👉Long waiting lists for assessments and professional support
👉Dealing with judgment from society & family members
👉Needing self-care & sensory needs support

And the list goes on and on….📝

So how can we come together to best support parents and caregivers of children with these exceptional needs? 🤲

This is why Spectrum Lingo has put together a FREE webinar to help caregivers best empower themselves and avoid experiencing burnout. How can you best serve your child if your tank is empty? So let’s fill up your tank and teach you skills and strategies so that you can step into your power and keep your engine running! 💪
